Joseph Stalin Museum

A unique museum in Gori depicting Stalin’s life and the era of Soviet repression

The I. Stalin State Museum is located in Gori — the city where Joseph Stalin spent his childhood years. The museum is a large historical complex that includes six exhibition halls, a memorial house, and Stalin’s personal railway carriage. The exhibitions present materials documenting Stalin’s life, political career, and the social and cultural background of his era.

The museum's collection contains more than 40,000 items, including documents, personal belongings, artwork, photographs, film materials, and various archival resources. The permanent exhibition set across six halls is organized chronologically and thematically, allowing visitors to gain a comprehensive view of Stalin’s era.

A dedicated section of the museum focuses on the period of Soviet repressions, displaying materials and documents that reflect the political persecution, human tragedies, and dramatic historical events associated with the Stalinist regime.
