NNLE “The Union of Tbilisi Municipal Museums”
The mission of the Museums Union is based on the synthesis of traditional museum practice and its educational function. Within this framework, alongside museum collections, the visitor is regarded as a central and strategically significant priority of the museum’s activities.Since 2016, the Tbilisi Museums Union has operated as a unified institution comprising nine museums in Tbilisi. Many of the museums within the Union have existed for many years and serve as custodians of Georgia’s cultural and historical heritage.
The Tbilisi Museums Union actively carries out scientific, educational, and publishing activities, as well as infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of the memorial museums within the Union and the development of their exhibition spaces in accordance with contemporary international standards.
Educational services
At present, the museums of the Tbilisi Museums Union offer 40 educational and interpretive programmes designed for audiences of different ages and interests, delivered in both Georgian and English.
One of the key characteristics of the programmes implemented across the museums of the Tbilisi Museums Union is the presentation of the visual potential of museum exhibits and their curatorial context.
In museum education, particular importance is placed on the integrated teaching of different subject areas within the museum environment, as well as on the active use of the museums’ diverse collections in this process.
The educational and interpretive programmes of the Tbilisi Museums Union address a wide range of contemporary topics and extend beyond the biographical narratives of house museums or commemorated individuals.
Audio Guides
Audio guides in both English and Georgian languages are available at the Ilia Chavchavadze Literary Memorial Museum, Nikoloz Baratashvili Memorial House Museum, and Galaktion Tabidze Memorial House Museum.
